It was with great sadness to learn of the sudden passing of my dear friend, and former Chairman of the London Branch, Andrew Brodie. I had just spoken to him three days earlier to plan our upcoming event in London featuring the wines of the Napa Valley. Andrew and I had co-chaired many events spanning two decades, where I would bring California winemakers, and good friends to London to present wines of the new world.

Our first event was a two day Zinfandel extravaganza featuring the wines of Dry Creek Valley. The same format, a year later, featured the wines of the Russian River. We later featured a presentation of Oregon wines, followed by other memorable events featuring the wines of Marimar Torres and most recently Veedercrest.

The wines of the Napa Valley is an event we had discussed many times, and finally was becoming a reality. We were both very enthusiastic and looking forward to a spectacular presentation. We were well on our way, Andrew making arrangements at London's legendary Pied à Terre.

After hearing the heart-breaking news, I contacted the London Branch and asked if I could proceed with the event. They were elated, and I am honored to follow through with this final event we had planned together. Andrew had a passion for dessert wines, and therefore the impeccable 1988 Elysium (a non-Napa wine) is included in his honor.

Andrew and I shared the joy of international fellowship in celebration of the IWFS. We both felt that interaction between branches of different countries, and the sharing of mutual effort, embraced its mission -- two decades of friendship and camaraderie, our association with the London Branch has, and continues to be, a rewarding experience. For Andrew, the table we planned is set - a tribute to great friendship and in appreciation of your enormous contributions to the IWFS.

The event is sold out with a waiting list. Four spots are being held for for a period of two weeks (starting on September 22, 2016) to accommodate Marin members who may wish to attend. Please contact us immediately to reserve.

Kindest regards,
Jack Rubyn, Chairman
