Dear Members & Friends: It is with great pleasure to announce yet another annual event in conjunction with The London Wine & Food Society. Former Chairman of the London Branch, Andrew Brodie, and I are at it again, with a superb presentation of California wines.
It is the style and formality of London that draws me back, and the greatness of our own "New World Wines" to share with one of the IWFS's great legendary Branch's, and to simply be at the birthplace of André Simon's, International Wine and Food Society.
London anchors one in the grand tradition of who we are, and why the IWFS is an important and great Society with a thoroughbred heritage.
Perhaps the last bastion of the traditional grand dining experience, we continue with the highest standards. This will be my 25th year in London, a city I have grown to know well. Our British counterparts are a captivating group. Their warm and hospitable nature, and their appreciation of California wines, is simply infectious.
This is nothing new, the legendary and late renowned wine writer, innovative wine merchant, and beloved IWFS member, Harry Waugh, established a Zinfandel Society in London years back, and to this day his own intrigue with "New World" wines continues with a new generation of wine enthusiasts.
Last year we celebrated the hallmark wines of Marimar Torres. Marimar's wines were simply superb. The US Ambassador to Great Britain sent Agricultural Counselor, Mr. Eugene Philhower, to represent the United States at our dinner. Phil, who has thirty years of government service, is a terrific gentleman, and we had a wonderful time together.
Little did I know that the number one export from the United States to Great Britain is wine! Last February the US Embassy held its own California wine event featuring many wineries from California. The Embassy, and their enthusiasm for wine is profound.
This year 0ur esteemed IWFS Marin member, Veedercrest Proprietor, Ron Fenolio, will be presenting his renowned Veedercrest wines at one of London's finest Michelin Star Restaurants, L’Autre Pied.
I hope you will consider joining us, during this Holiday Season, for yet another memorable London experience.
Best wishes,
Jack Rubyn, Chairman
